ExCulture wins Innovator Award

Rising healthcare costs and misdiagnosis are a large problem in the Netherlands, and the rest of Europe. 2Scope proposes an assistive diagnostic device for lung diseases in primary care. The aim is not to replace the general practitioner, but to assist him/her during the diagnostic process. We create value by better informing the general practitioner, reducing misdiagnosis and thus costs and we reduce burden of disease for the patient.

How do you envision your startup one year after the PHIA?

In one-year’s time we envision ExCulture being closer to its mission of transitioning the heparin supply chain from animal-based materials to future-proof biobased sources. We will achieve this through having fully characterized the heparin-like compounds, developed a purification protocol, determining in-vitro biological activity and safety, as well as having further commercially validated our solution. During this time period we also intend to grow our team with new technical personnel and advisors. We will endeavour to strengthen our chances of success through strategic collaborations and partnerships in both industry and academia.

Plense Technologies wins Rough Diamond Award

Manual crop interpretation is a major obstacle to the widespread adoption of high-performance cultivation methods, hindering progress towards a sustainable and secure food supply. To tackle this challenge, our mission is to make crop cultivation easy, efficient and accessible for anyone, anywhere. We achieve this by creating robust and affordable smart sensing devices that convert crop status into actionable data. Our approach goes beyond data collection – we analyse the data and provide insights that enable growers to take informed, data-driven decisions. Join us in our vision for a world with sustainable food security.

How do you envision your startup one year after the PHIA?

In one year, Plense Technologies will have made significant strides towards revolutionizing the controlled environment agriculture industry. By then, we will have successfully conducted multiple pilots with greenhouse companies, gathering invaluable feedback to develop a robust MVP that is ready for deployment in any greenhouse. This will position Plense Technologies as a trusted provider of next-generation cultivation technology, which takes us one step closer to achieving our mission. We will continue to push the boundaries of what is possible in the field of controlled environment agriculture, thereby ensuring a sustainable and liveable planet for the next generation.

DeltaV

In the Aerospace MRO business, aircraft composites are often still inspected manually. One frequently used inspection method is the tap test, where the component is tapped upon and mechanics listen for abnormalities. Bladesense is convinced this can be done way more efficiently. Using their novel sensing methods and software, accurate 3D models of the components can be made on which different types of data are projected. This allows the inspection process to be automated and digitized. Eventually, they will be able to scan a whole aircraft with millimetre precision.

Sixth Sense Diagnostics

We are Sixth Sense Diagnostics. We developed a point-of-care test for quantitative detection of a key biomarker for the early diagnosis of sepsis. Current methods for sepsis diagnosis are very expensive and time consuming. This is time that patients do not have as sepsis fatality rapidly increases with delayed start of treatment: with every hour delay in treatment, survival chances drop by 8%. With our test, sepsis can be rapidly diagnosed in the early stages of the disease. Early detection and treatment of sepsis reduces patients time in hospitals, lowers healthcare costs and most importantly: saves lives.

Fabulous Fungi

Fabulous Fungi is the solution to one of the major problems in the fashion industry; the use of synthetic textile dyes. Enormous amounts of harmful chemicals are involved with this conventional dyeing method, which causes water pollution, health problems and a significant demand of water and energy. Fabulous Fungi employs fungi in order to create sustainable and safe textile dye, without the use of harmful chemicals. The biochemical processes of these fungi produce pigments. These pigments, which form the basis of the textile dye, are biodegradable. This means it won’t cause any water pollution. In addition, fungal dye requires less water and energy. All in all, fungal dye will have many benefits over synthetic textile dye and other alternatives.

Heliostrome

Heliostrome develops software for designing solar powered irrigation systems. Solar power is one of the lowest carbon and lowest cost power sources for new irrigation. Optimal design is critical for solar irrigation systems – otherwise, they deplete groundwater or reduce crop yields. However, the design of projects is complex and requires expertise ranging across solar engineering, irrigation and agriculture. Heliostrome’s software will enable irrigation engineers to design affordable solar irrigation systems that increase yields for farmers at low carbon cost while using land, water and equipment more efficiently.

InnoFlex

InnoFlex is a startup located at the High Tech Campus in Eindhoven, The Netherlands with the mission to clean air from industrial sites by developing photocatalytic systems and film solutions. These are systems that use photocatalytic materials and light energy to break down air pollution into harmless compounds such as water, N2, CO2 and other small molecules. With the primary application in the agriculture sector, InnoFlex can provide a better solution to ammonia emissions in stables. Additionally, InnoFlex has the know how to also develop air cleaning solutions for other large industries.

Weco

Weco is developing a Wave Energy Converter (WEC) with novel and unique design principles. With an increased demand for green energy and dependance on wind and solar, new technologies are needed to diversify our energy mix. Wave energy is the greatest untapped renewable source of energy at this moment. With our approach in harvesting the horizontal movement of the waves in the ocean, we are able to provide clean, reliable and affordable power to islands and coastal area’s around the world. We are young and driven entrepreneurs, tackling one of the greatest challenges of our generation.

Coaching Day

A throwback to the first training day of this year’s program: Coaching Day. At our platinum partner KPN’s headquarters, all semi-finalists went into a day full of deep dives with innovation teams from our platinum partners, intellectual property specialists from Arnold & Siedsma and disruption experts from SparkOptimus.

Investor Day

We’re thrilled to look back on a valuable Investor day at Yes!Delft. It was a day full of interesting pre-matched speed dating sessions and networking opportunities! The goal of the day was to help startups increase their understanding of raising funding, meet potential first/follow-on investors, and learn about what funding strategy would be useful for their company specifically.
